New Hampshire Motor Speedway: Interesting Facts

1.The New Hampshire Motor Speedway, located in the small town of Loudon, is the largest sports and entertainment facility in the six-state New England area.

2.The track is 1.058-mile (1.703 km) long, with long straights and tight turns. It is the only track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to have been measured at exactly one mile.

3.New Hampshire Motor Speedway is the first track to host NASCAR national series racing since the sport’s founding, having hosted the first NASCAR sanctioned race on July 14, 1949.

4.In 2001, the speedway became the first of the “newer” tracks to be accepted into American culture when it hosted the first of two Nationwide Series races.

5.The track is home to many different forms of racing from NASCAR National Series events to grassroots/local events, such as the Late Model class, Sportsman class, and Mini Stocks.

6.The NHMS hosted the first major short-track event in history at the venue in 2003, when NASCAR's Modified Series ran the first Made in America 200.

7.The speedway has had a variety of names over the years. It took its current name in 1999, when Bob Bahre and Bob Tajerian purchased the track and gave it the new moniker.

8.Every July since 2001, the Speedway has held “The Fossil Fuel Festival,” which is a large summer concert series featuring notable national acts.

9.The Speedway has held five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races a year since 2001, three of which are the Chase for the championship races.

10.The Speedway offers several unique fan experiences such as the Opportunity KitchenStage, a fan welcoming ceremoniously called “the flag drop,” and Victory Lane celebrations.
