Indianapolis: Interesting Facts

  1. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) was constructed in 1909 and originally built as a test facility for the automotive industry.

  2. The first ever race held at the IMS was the 1910 Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, making the track the original home of what is now known as the IndyCar Series.

  3. The track is so large, it was given its own zip code of 46224.

  4. Over 400,000 people attend the Indianapolis 500 every May, making it one of the largest single-day sporting events in the world.
